Produktbeschreibung
The ethnopolitical conflicts in the Balkans and the former Soviet Union have directed the attention of states, multilateral institutions, and nongovernmental organizations towards the need to cooperate and coordinate their respective approaches in trying to resolve, or simply contain, the enormous problems such conflicts throw forth. This book makes an original contribution to this debate by bringing together representatives of a broad range of organizations - including the UN, OSCE, and WEU, the Worldbank, International Alert, Médecins sans Frontières, Bonn International Center for Conversion, and the Interchurch Peace Council - to share the lessons they have learnt through their experiences in conflict management in the field. The authors offer an insight into how the various actors deal with the complexity of ethnopolitical conflicts and increase our understanding of the competing demands that make it difficult to achieve synergy and effective cooperation. Published in the series Schriften des Zentrum für Europäische Integrationsforschung (ZEI), this book is intended to take this discussion further in the continuing effort to improve and fine-tune conflict management approaches.
