They are often threatened by habitat destruction and pollution as a result of human activities and the development of the islands over the last 30 years has destroyed, reduced or changed many habitats. The purpose of this book is to increase the knowledge of and the respect for the herpetofauna of Corfu and its satellite islands and to create a preliminary benchmark for the present status and biology of their amphibians and reptiles.
