Produktbeschreibung

Films and the film industry play a significant role both in the work of Erich Maria Remarque and in its reception. On the basis of two hitherto unpublished film exposés from the mid-1920s – “Monteur Hagen” (“Assembly Operator Hagen”) and “Kleines Schicksal” (“Small Fate”) – this volume shows how early Remarque first gained an interest in the film medium. The central focus of the contributions are the films based on works by Remarque. For the first time a detailed analysis is made of the film adaptation of “Der Himmel kennt keine Günstlinge” (“Heaven Has No Favorites”), elucidating the significance of Sydney Pollack’s “Bobby Deerfield”. A comparative study of “Der Untergang” (“Downfall”) (2009) and “Der letzte Akt” (“The Last Act”) (1955), based on a screenplay concept by Remarque, highlights the topicality of this film on Hitler’s last days. With two film exposés by Erich Maria Remarque as well as contributions by Saskia Fares, Elena Kovyneva, Melanie Latus, Elena Narbut, Denis Herold, Heinrich Placke, Oleg Pokhalenkov and Roman Tschaikowski.
