Marcin Wiatr contributes to the reconstruction, but also to the objectification and advancement of the Polish educational discourse on the reconditioning and adoption of German cultural heritage ongoing since 1989. A central topic of the project is 'Upper Silesia' – primarily as the subject of an investigation into the political memory, and secondarily as a show-place for the virulent educational policy trends that were symbolically incorporated into the first-ever history book on regional studies of Upper Silesia. The study aims to provide a reliable basis for the education policy debates in Poland like Germany, but also to understand German cultural heritage as a Europeanisation moment in the history of Upper Silesia. Further, the study proposes ways for successfully classroom teaching of Upper Silesia as a place of remembrance shaped by multiculturalism.
