The study analyses content and perspectives especially linked with the research of influences on the design of space-oriented presentation of history in Europe in transnational comparison. Starting point is the systematical analysis of 365 historical atlases and about 4.000 maps which have been published in 37 European States since 1990 and are therefore available for the historical learning. Historical atlases in selected topics of pan-European relevance are being compared in a qualitative-empirical analysis in order to yield exemplary European similarities and national distinctions. Core of the research is the thematic connection to the time of the World Wars as one of the most influential parts of European and World history. This happens together on theory grounding purpose by systematically collecting map-specific presentation mode with narrative perspectives and combined to typologies. Newer approaches of analyzing maps as constructs are translated into historical maps as a visualized presentation of history and methodical further differentiated.
